What does "Business and Human Rights" mean?

From AIC's 2006 BHR brochure: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights calls on every part of society -- including companies -- to respect human rights. This means that companies have a responsibility to comply with international human rights law. They must not violate human rights or tolerate such violations in their field of operation.

What we do

The BHR Vancouver group supports the strategic goals of the AIC(ES) Business and Human Rights Campaign:
1. To improve the human rights performance of Canadian and transnational companies operating outside Canada.
2. To advocate for national and international standards and legislation to hold Canadian corporations accountable for their human rights performance.
3. To raise awareness and build capacity, both within and outside AI Canada, to advance the ongoing BHR work addressing the relationsip between corporations and human rights.
